About the game

A new five-letter word every day, the same for everyone: guess it in six tries, with colors showing which letters are right and in the right place. Keep your streak, share your result as colored squares, and play unlimited practice rounds. In English, the words are English. Right in the browser.

How to play Word of the Day

1. Find the secret five-letter word in up to six tries. Each guess must be a valid five-letter word.
2. After each guess, the colors show how close you are: green is the right letter in the right spot, yellow is a letter that is in the word in another spot, and a greyed-out letter is not in the word.
3. There is a new word every day, the same for everyone. Want more? In Practice the words are random and you can play as much as you like.

Tips

• Open with a word full of common letters to find out quickly which ones are in the answer.
• Move yellow letters to a new spot in your next guess, and do not reuse greyed-out letters.
• Remember that a letter can appear twice in the word.
• In hard mode, green letters stay in place and yellow ones must be used in your next guesses.
